Remember the water main that burst on 13th Street and Fifth Avenue a few weeks ago? Well, it not only inconvenienced commuters, but also caused significant damage to the basement floors of the New School's brand-new University Center at 14th Street and Fifth Avenue. Thanks to the school's fast-acting officials, the building opened its doors for the first time this morning, right on schedule. The 375,000-square-foot multi-use building is intended to facilitate conversation amongst students the way the "quad" does at all universities that aren't in downtown Manhattan. The Observer has a photo tour. [DNAinfo and NYO; previously]
