194 Orchard To Be Demolished, Reincarnated As Five Condos

New, 9 comments

Last March, speculation mounted that the one-story retail space at 194 Orchard Street—then home to the Leather Gallery of New York, which has since relocated—was being eyed for a new residential project. Bowery Boogie has more details about the development, which will involve razing the graffitied-over existing structure (pre-demolition permits have already been approved) and erecting in its place an almost 65-foot-tall six-story building.

According to permit filings, it'll have 2,288 square feet of commercial space and 6,937 of residential, which includes five full-floor units that we're guessing will be condos. BB has a schematic diagram of a zoning blueprint submitted to the DOB, but it doesn't tell us much about how the building will look. Also relative unknowns: architect Israel Veles and owner Hesky Haim of Sky High Group. Those will intel should hit up the tipline.
