The residents of 305 Decatur Street—a Section 8 building in Bed-Stuy—are livid after complaints about the building's faulty heating system fell on deaf ears. Residents claimed that Shinda Management, which took over the building in 2005, only installed baseboard heating in late 2013, after years without a proper system in place. But with the temperature in the single digits this week, the new system has already stopped working. On Thursday, the building's super made the rounds to tape up windows, but there's no sign that Shinda plans to fix the heat anytime soon. One tenant, Linda Owens, has even resorted to leaving her stove on all day, a highly dangerous technique that the FDNY advises against due to the danger of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
