Menachem Stark

A bank account controlled by slain Williamsburg landlord Menachem Stark is missing $1.7 million. Stark and his partner, Israel Perlmutter, were ordered to maintain the account to keep their 74-unit South Side House in Williamsburg functional after they declared bankruptcy in 2009, but upon a court-ordered review following Stark's death, nearly all of that money was found to be "improperly taken." According to South Side House's court-appointed trustee, Jonathan Flaxer, the building's operating reports may have been tampered with to conceal the theft. He also said that an account that should have contained well over $200,000 had just $3,500 in it. At the time of Stark's death, he and Perlmutter were about $40 million in debt. [NYDN]
