In this post-Hurricane Sandy world, many landlords are implementing longterm plans that will protect their buildings from future flooding, but many others have already enacted more immediate disaster preparedness plans. ABS Partners Real Estate created a 21-piece "survival kit" that it placed in many of the 60 buildings that it manages. The kit includes major things like a generator and five gallon gas drums, plus necessities like distilled drinking water and military grade food rations. It also has toiletries, clothes for several days, first aid kits, blankets, batteries, and a closet with a lock for secure storage. [NYT; previously]
