The Department of Environmental Conservation appears to be moving forward with its plan to kill all the swans in Prospect Park, much to the chagrin of wildlife advocates like GooseWatch NYC. The department released a statement saying, "Mute swans can cause a variety of problems, including aggressive behavior towards people, destruction of submerged aquatic vegetation, displacement of native wildlife species, degradation of water quality and potential hazards to aviation." The plan would eliminate all free-range swans by 2025. [NYDN; photo by Troy McCullough]
