Whitney Condos Launch Sales With $32 Million Penthouse

New, 3 comments

Daniel E. Straus's rowhouse-turned-condo development at 33 East 74th Street has finally launched sales with a listing for the $32 million triplex penthouse and a $14.75 million 3BR on the fourth floor. Straus bought the six brownstones from which the condos were converted from the Whitney Museum in 2010, paying $95 million, and soon angered the neighbors with his conversion proposal. Eventually, however, he got plans past the Landmarks Commission, tapping preservation-minded architects Beyer Blinder Belle and, for the interiors, Champalimaud. Now that the first two listings have finally hit the market, a few months later than expected, we'll see if anybody wants to buy a $5,069-per-square-foot triplex with four private terraces—smart money says someone will.
