Queens councilman Costa Constantinides, who presides over Astoria, said he "cannot support the proposal [for Astoria Cove] as it currently sits with the Council" because the affordable rents that developer Alma Realty has proposed are "too expensive for the area and doesn't capture what real Astorians need." Constantinides' vote is key, as City Council usually follows the lead of local member (as evidenced by BAM South and Letitia James). The full City Council will likely vote on the 1,700-unit development in November. [NYDN; previously]
