Calatrava's Church Near Ground Zero Reveals More Renders

New, 10 comments

This Saturday, ground will break on another rebuilding project near Ground Zero and the World Trade Center. The new St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, designed by starchitect Santiago Calatrava will sit on the site of the former Deutsche Bank Building, overlooking the 9/11 Memorial. The original church was destroyed in the September 11 attacks, and Calatrava told the Journal that church officials want it to be rebuilt as "a very ecumenical place; they would like to have 24 hours the church open." Calatrava shared with the Journal an animated video of his design for the church, providing more renderings and the first glimpse inside the space. It's supposed to be complete by 2016 or early 2017, but Calatrava is not the best at meeting deadlines or staying within budgets so don't count on that.
