The Atelier's 'Duplex of Baronial Splendor' Wants $4.75M

New, 5 comments

This impressive duplex in Lincoln Square co-op The Atelier (not that Atelier) has been put on the market for $4.75 million by owners who purchased it 42 years ago. The brokerbabble, which amusingly refers to the apartment as a "Duplex of Baronial Splendor," brags that the previous owner before them was famous portrait photographer Philippe Halsman, which is why there's a 1967 Salvador Dalí sketch inscribed to Halsman "preserved on the living room wall." That alone is enough to make this a unique residence, but the apartment itself is also quite something, "with its majestic, two story living room, tall North windows, and over 20 ft high ceiling [...] reminiscent of turn-of-the-century Vienna." Apparently, the owners use it to host parties with up to 150 guests.
