Knock It Off

It took a few months, but elected officials are finally stepping in to do something about notorious landlord Samy Mahfar's treatments of tenants at 102 Norfolk Street. The holdouts in the 25-unit building have been living in "a 'war zone' of constant construction" since at least July; Mahfar is planning a luxury conversion of the non-stabilized units and has inflicted lead dust, after-hours work, and other hazards on residents. Not sure Mahfar will heed a warning letter from the likes of Manhattan Borough President Brewer Gale Brewer, but it's a start. [Bowery Boogie; previously]
