It's only taken, oh, more than seven years, but the Jean Nouvel-designed supertall MoMA tower at 53 West 53rd Street is making actual, physical progress. Excavation at the site is now underway. The tower will rise to 1,050 feet, which will make it the fourth tallest residential tower in the city, after JDS's 1,350-foot-tall 111 West 57th Street, the 1,396-foot-tall 432 Park Avenue, and Extell's 1,479-foot-tall (1,775 feet with the spire) 217 West 57th Street.
