City officials are looking to hold landlords accountable for their use, or lack thereof, of heat in buildings by rolling out a pilot program with Heat Seek NYC, an app that measures heat output in buildings and compiles data in a way that can be shared with city officials. "This app could be used in two ways," Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said, "Heat Seek will show if [landlords] turn the heat on when inspectors come and then turn it off when they leave."
