Residents of Sunnyside are hoping to bridge the two halves of their neighborhood, which is bisected by LIRR and freight rail yards, by building a platform with a large affordable housing complex over the exposed tracks. Queens Community Board 2 is exploring the plausibility of the platform, which would extend from 21st Street and 49th Avenue to Queens Boulevard, NYDN reports. CB2's rezoning proposal focuses on bringing the large affordable housing development to an area approximate to the comparatively pricey Long Island City. The platform could also include a school and public open space. Although exciting, the proposal isn't a new one. Here's to hoping the Great Platform Building Rush of the Early 2000'sHudson Yards, Atlantic Yards Pacific Parkis good to Sunnyside.
