The Mobil station on the corner of East Houston and Avenue C is going the way of so many other New York City gas stations, and will be replaced by a 10-story, 46-unit residential building from BLDG Management. A rough outline of the new building, obtained by the Commercial Observer, shows floor-to-ceiling corner windows, some balconies, and a ground-level retail component. The design is from Rotwein & Blake Associated Architects. The developer is making all the units market-rate, but is hoping to qualify for an inclusionary housing bonus by building affordable units at a different site.
BLDG is set to apply for a couple of variances that would allow for the retail component and for the building to be constructed on its oddly-shaped trapezoidal lot later this month, according to the Observer. Construction is expected to begin in 2015 and finish in 14 months.
