Department of City Planning commissioner Carl Weisbrod said yesterday that in order to incentivize and encourage developers to build more affordable housing, the city will shoulder the financial burden of more parks and schools. In the past, developers could include those public-serving spaces in their proposals, and be allowed to build bigger in exchange. But perhaps because because there's mandatory inclusionary housing rather than voluntary inclusionary housing for new developments, this is the city's way of saying, "Hey, developers, we'll pick up the tab for this other stuff."
