Extell began demolishing the five buildings at 1681-1689 Third Avenue a few months ago, and now we know what will replace them: a 23-story tower with 90 apartments. The units will likely be condos, as they average a whopping 2,100 square feet with most floors having three units. Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect of record on the plans, and the building will have 13,000 square feet of retail in addition to the 190,000 square feet of residential. There will be a swimming pool in the basement, and the top floor will hold a full-floor penthouse. [NYY; previously]
