Community organizers attempted to storm the offices of Astoria Cove developer Alma Realty yesterday over reports that the developer had contracted SSC High Rise Construction, a company that was found guilty in 2011 of paying employees different amounts based on race ($25/hour for Irish workers, $18/hour for blacks, and $15/hour for Latinos), to work on a Vernon Boulevard project. Alma has also been accused of illegally raising rents on rent-stabilized apartments it owns, and of ignoring the community's cries for more affordable housing. It doesn't want to talk about any of it. [Gothamist; previously]
