Everyone (or at least preservation-minded people) is freaking out about the pre-Thanksgiving revelation that the Landmarks Preservation Commission wants to decalendar nearly 100 items. All 96 items (94 sites + two historic districts) have been "under consideration" for more than five years, with 80 of the items sitting on the list for more than 20 years. The plan, according to LPC chair Meenakshi Srinivasan, is "about clearing out projects that are not active so we can focus on ones that are." [NYT; previously]
