Despite opposition from neighborhood residents and activists, it looks like the Radio City Post Office on West 52nd Street will embrace a residential topper. Developer Oases Real Estate will move forward with bringing 44 condos to the building, spread between the post office's existing top floor and a new two-story topper. 6sqft has found first interior renderings from the luxury apartments, which will be known as Radio City Lofts. The proposed addition first made waves when Clinton and Hell's Kitchen residents argued that the development compromised the Special District Clinton zoning laws that stipulate the neighborhood maintain a mixed-income characteristic and not be adversely affected by new development.
The development will bring a much-needed cash infusion to the Radio City USPS facility, which will remain fully-functioning throughout construction. Plans for the topper have already been okayed. Architecture Outfitt is the project's architect.
