Opponents of the Willets Point megaproject filed their lawsuit that they hope will stop the the development in its tracks yesterday. The suit contends that the shopping mall would be illegally built on parkland and would therefore have to get approval from the state Legislature under the public trust doctrine. The Bloomberg administration got around that using the 1961 law that allowed Shea Stadium to be built, but opponents say that since the mall is not related to the stadium, and should not be allowed.
