The corner of Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street has been eyed for a mixed-use project with hotel, residential, and retail components for six years now. But some movement is imminent: Thor Equities has tweaked earlier designs for a commercial podium at the base of the building and unveiled the rendering above, first spotted by New York YIMBY on the broker's website. It'll be glassy (of course), with seven levels and 77,000 square feet of retail space, but the most interesting news comes about the condo/hotel tower planned for its top. It is set to rise 39 stories and house 96 units. The hotel room vs. apartment breakdown is unclear. YIMBY notes that while permits haven't yet been filed for the tower, the two pre-war structures that used to sit on the lot are almost completely demolished and permits have been approved for the podium. Floorplans and more information on the lower bit are available on 520 Fifth Avenue's official site. Oh, and the architect? Gene Kaufman, of course. Can't wait to see what that tower will look like.
