A group of city residents, supported by Queens democrat Elizabeth Crowley, are hoping to re-introduce a bill to city council pushing the conversion of 130-acre Hart Island, a Victorian era potters field, into a public park. The bill hit a snag last year and failed to make it out of committee. Currently, the Department of Corrections has jurisdiction over the island and it is only accessible via the same ferry that goes to Riker's Island. [NYO; previously]
