A blocky, six-story office building at 125 Canal Street near the foot of the Manhattan Bridge is being converted into a 40-room hotel by less-than-stellar architect Michael Kang. Locals favorite way to describe Kang is "shady," as he's been involved with some scandalous real estate deals and developments. Permits were issued in December, and recently a sign advertising "Be Hotel Opening Soon" appeared on the building. [Bowery Boogie; previously]
