A new condominium is coming to 58 West 129th Street thanks to one enigmatic developer, whose identity has been shielded by an LLC, who is likely also behind the widely popular and sold-out condos nearby at 5 West 127th Street. The new seven-story, 19-unit building, which is currently under construction, is designed by Alexander Compagno Architect and will bring 17,962 square feet of residential space and a 2,568-square-foot community space to the neighborhood. DOB filings indicate amenities such as a gym and storage, plus a "tennis recreation space" in the rear yard and a doctor's office on the ground floor. Harlem Bespoke notes that, despite breaking ground last year, the project has only started to make vertical progress within the past month. The condos are rising on a lot which previously belonged to a meeting hall for a Mormon congregation, who moved to a larger location on Lenox Avenue.
The new development is just 13 blocks north of The Adeline, which sold 25 percent of its 83 units after only one week on the market. Similarly, 40 percent of the developer's condos at 5 West 127th Street were gone in its first month, and they all sold out before the building even hosted an open house. With such voracious response to new inventory in the neighborhood, developers have little impetus to shy away from the gentrifying neighborhood.
