Welcome to Cornerspotter, Curbed's game in which you try to identify the location and/or identity of a particular building or streetscape in a historic photograph. Impress us and your fellow Curbed readers with your uncanny insight into New York City and its past!

This Belle of New York, captured before the turn of the century, kept its doors open for less than 50 years before it was demolished. However, in the building's infancy, it was enlarged and rebuilt after a fire damaged much of the structure. The building possessed an amazing technology for its time, one yet to be introduced in its contemporaries. Structures designed by the architect still stand tall throughout the city today. For full credit, please name the building, its location, the architect, and the technological advance in question.
