"Public Enemy No. 1"

"I'm a foreign buyer in New York, and I'm not the enemy." So begins a dramatic melodramatic, somewhat defensive tell-all by a Canadian writer who has been a New York City property owner since 2005 and just moved to a 57th Street condo. She aims to deflect all the hate geared at affluent non-Americans snapping up ridiculously priced apartments: "Populist resentment, new taxes and legislative threats have cast foreign buyers as pied-à-terrorists. ... Attacking New York's newest, part-time residents like us is fiscally foolish. The facts show that we are the solution, not the problem, to New York's budget. We are walking wallets—and we just want to have fun." Oh, there are more gems. [NYP]
