A First Look Inside Norman Foster's New West Chelsea Condos

New, 47 comments

Things we knew about Norman Fosters' 551 West 21st Street: 19 stories, 44 apartments, and ridiculous-sounding penthouses—all storm-ready. And now, thanks to a tipster, we got our first peek at interior renderings, because the luxury project's full-blown website is now live. "551W21" is going to be fancy, we can tell you that much, based on the archi-babble and taglines strewn amid the renderings of apartments, amenities, and architectural details. Four two-bedrooms, two three-bedrooms, and one four-bedroom are apparently available.

To give you a taste, Foster + Partners' Brandon Haw says in a video that it's "a very elegant, well-proportioned, quiet building—a very urbane building—it's a building that will mature and it will become a classic over time." What's more, its craftsmanship "really sets it apart as a new paradigm shift, a new gold standard, of what it means to purchase an apartment in Manhattan." Setting the bar low, right? Well, the asks will be high. Pricing will reportedly start at $5.75 million and go up to $17.5 million, with the penthouses costing upwards of $35M. Of the three apartments with pricing listed on the site, the 3BRs want $10.75M and the 4BR is asking an even $15M.

For your viewing pleasure, here's the full promotional video (it's only one minute long):
