The PEN American Center got a chance to go behind the scenes at the New York Public Library's main branch this weekend as the organization tries to garner support for its controversial renovation plan which includes changing the storied stacks. One attendee wrote an account of the experience and concluded: "The purpose of the tour was to convince us that the demolition of the stacks is necessary and a contribution to service and scholarship.
