The colorful 324 East 4th Street townhouse where New York City street artist Hanksy hosted his semi-secret January show, Surplus Candy, is poised to see more alterations. Plans on file indicate that Anthony Morena of The Redd Group is hoping to add two floors and seven units to the existing five-story, four-unit tenement.
EV Grieve points out that the gut renovation would not only sterilize "one of the last unique-looking buildings in the area" but also likely bring its price point and level of luxury more in line with neighboring buildings 326-328 East 4th Street, which were recently converted into expensive dorms. Thanksy to Hanksy for his futile attempt to keep the arts alive in this continued hotbed of gentrification.
