A new study by the Urban Green Council found that, in the event of a blackout, glassy condo towers can turn into literal hot boxes, with temperatures reaching as high as 102 degrees. The study, part of a post-Sandy planning project, created various models of buildings, outfitting them with plain-glass, double-pane windows. But critics said this is an inaccurate portrayal, especially of new buildings, as most are energy efficient and use high-performance windows with a special coating that reflects heat out. [WSJ]
