Among the participants bidding to convert a former women's prison into commercial space are a number of major developers: Jamestown Properties, Edison Properties, the Related Companies and the Brodsky Organization. The Bayview Correctional Facility on West 20th Street has been vacant since before Sandy, which flooded the jail, and the state has issued a request for proposals. Conversion plans may not, however, include a residential component, and community residents are pretty peeved about the lack of attention paid to affordable housing. [DNAinfo; previously]
