Inside Icon 52, Woodside's New Rental Building, Now Leasing

New, 14 comments

It was only a matter of time before the new development boom in Long Island City crept eastward into Sunnyside and Woodside. The area along Queens Boulevard was rezoned in 2006 to allow for higher residential density, and we're starting to see the affects of that rezoning take shape. Enter, The Icon 52, Woodside's new rental building located at 52-05 Queens Boulevard. The 66-unit building is now leasing, and the marketing team sent along a few photos of the model unit, meant to showcase what they are calling "affordable luxury." Units range from 403-square-foot studios to 806 square-foot two-bedrooms, and rents start at $1,500. Interiors feature hardwood floors, and kitchens with Caeserstone countertops and stainless steel appliances. There are still only three listings live on Modern Spaces website, but we're told more should be released very soon.

When details about the building were first released, the general reaction was, uh, less than pleasant: "Because nothing says luxury like 'Queens Blvd.'" "I remember the days when the word 'luxury' actually meant something." "From the outside it looks like an assisted living facility." "Putting 'Icon' in the name of a building this brutally dull is so absurd it's kind of LOL-funny." But it's not all bad: "Well, you can't beat the proximity to the cemetery. Surely that's work something."
