Despite protests from many of the people who live in the surrounding area, the Postal Service is going ahead with its plans to sell the Bronx General Post Office, a 1935 full-block building that the Times' David Dunlap recently called "a throwback to public institutions of another time." And who's to blame for the Bronx losing this landmark? The Internet. "We cannot overlook the decline of letter mail volumes and the growth of online services, particularly for the postage for packages," said a Postal Service spokesperson.
