The Tifereth Israel Town and Village Synagogue at 334 East 14th Street has been called "one of the most important buildings in the East Village" by historian Francis Morrone, but it's not protected by landmark status, though that may soon change. The Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing about the building, currently on the market for $14M, this spring. The building comes with air rights, but landmarking would ensure the structure is preserved if any redevelopment happens. [GVSHP; previously]
