After an Upper West Side apartment building opened a gym and told rent-stabilized tenants they couldn't use it, a local lawmaker is planning to introduce a bill that would fine landlords $25,000 for such discriminatory acts. Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal supports the measure because there is "widespread evidence" of the practice that recently came to light at Stonehenge Village (pictured) and other buildings, with certain tenants barred from amenities like gyms, pools, playrooms, roof decks or free shuttles. She cites 91st Street's Greystone and 75th Street's Astor as two other places where gym access is not available to all residents. [DNAinfo; previously]
