The redevelopment plan for the Kingsbridge Armory will turn the fortress-like structure into a year-round ice skating facility, and provide the community with a new 52,000-square-foot space. The use of said space is still undecided, but hip-hop "elders" want it to be the Universal Hip-Hop Museum, in honor of the genre's Bronx roots. The museum hopes to open in the armory by 2017, but the final decision lies with a yet-to-be-appointed advisory board. [NYT; previously]
