When the 2012 living-wage law was enacted, former Mayor Bloomberg made an exception for Related Companies; the developer's massive Hudson Yards project was going to be exempt from the rule. But new Mayor Bill de Blasio is having none of that. Yesterday, he struck a new deal with Related that will require the landowner to pay the 1,650 future employees of the site (janitors, engineers, customer service reps, etc.) at least $11.75 per hour.
