ARO-Designed Tribeca Loft Layers Old & New, Asks $6.75M

New, 8 comments

Created by the Architecture Research Office, this nearly 4,000-square-foot duplex loft at 16 Desbrosses Street was originally two separate units. The architects worked with the owners, who just listed the place for $6.75 million, to design a single-family unit that combines new with old. Douglas fir beams used in the original building's construction were re-milled and used in the loft's mezzanine level and stairs, while the original steel beams and concrete structure were exposed in the double-height living space. The extensive brokerbabble details all of the modern touches, like a walnut, glass, and aluminum library system, a 166-bottle wine chiller, and high tech-security system. The unit also comes with a converted loading dock that's now a 1,294-square-foot garage and photography studio. The building was originally converted by artists for artists (Lena Dunham's parents lived here), so you can guess the type of buyer they're looking for.
