A disabled woman living in city housing is suing the New York City Housing Authority, after claiming that the city agency has refused to move her into a smaller home for over a decade.
In 2003, the NYCHA sent Luduvina Gomez of Coney Island a form asking her to transfer from her current three-bedroom duplex to a smaller apartment, a form which she has dutifully completed every year since. However, the agency has ignored all of her requests, and last year, Gomez fell in her apartment and suffered an injury.
Now she's suing the NYCHA for $1 million, according to a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
Three-bedroom apartments like the one occupied by Gomez are very hard to come by, with almost 18,000 people currently waiting for one.
