The Prince George Hotel opened on East 28th Street in 1904 and was for many years a paragon of luxuryuntil it transformed into a rather seedy welfare hotel in the 70s. Converted and restored into a 416-room SRO, many gilded details are now intact, from coffered ceilings and tiled arches to a columned ballroom and Renaissance-style murals. Untapped Cities has more photos and the whole story. [UC]
