You Can Now Live In the Carroll Gardens Hell Building

New, 1 comment

The long-awaited removal of the steel tumor atop 335 Carroll Street, aka the Carroll Gardens Hell Building, gave rise to rumors that the building was going to be sold off to another developer who would tear it down and construct a larger building by combining adjacent sites. That does not appear to have happened, however, and now it seems that the Hell Building might be doing the last thing that anyone really expected of it: become an actual place where people can live. A sign, spotted by Brownstoner, on the construction fence announces that the apartments are "COMING SPRING 2014," and the broker's website reveals that those apartments are going to be rentals.

According to Department of Buildings permits, the five-story Carroll Gardens Hell Building contains 30 units as well as recreation space on the room and a "community recreation room" on the ground floor. There is also, in keeping with the building's history, currently a Partial Stop Work Order on the site due to a lack of guardrails and the fact that the "work does not conform" to the approved plans.
