It Ain't Easy Being Green

New, 1 comment

A giant oil spill in Greenpoint decades ago has resulted in a $19.5 million consolation payment from ExxonMobil that can be funneled towards environmental efforts in the area. The first batch of grants is about to be announced, and the Times details the various proposals vying for that cash. The 96 bidders range from a Milton Street church that wants a green roof to a Brooklyn Public Library branch that wants to build an environmental education center to the city, which wants $7 million to plant trees, spiff up Box Street Park, and turn a parcel near Bushwick Inlet into parkland.
