18-Story Tower Will Replace A Remsen St. 'Eyesore' (And More)

New, 5 comments

First it was speculative, now it's a near certainty. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that Quinlan Development Group is planning to raze three adjacent properties in prime Brooklyn Heights territory—Remsen Street—and erect an 18-story building on the site. As of right, it can rise up to 185 feet, since this stretch is outside the Heights' historic swath. Of those three buildings to be sacrificed, No. 153 is a graffiti-covered eyesore with busted windows that neighbors are glad to see go. It went to seed at the hands of its late prior owner, whose unrealized plans included adding two floors and converting it into a hotel. The other two structures to face the wrecking ball are, however, "perfectly nice." The DOB has already approved demolition permits. C'est la (real estate) vie.
