This morning, the American Museum of Natural History launched a new online image database that chronicles the museum's 145-year history. Many of the treasure trove's over 7,000 images have never been seen by the public, Gothamist notes. "It's like stepping into a time machine and seeing a long ago NYC or just catching glimpses of ghosts from a forgotten world now seen only by researchers and Museum staff," the museum says of the collection, which includes everything from photographs to rare book illustrations and notes.
