This $5,000/Month Astoria Duplex Set a Neighborhood Record

New, 8 comments

Apartments in Manhattan and Brooklyn often rent for tens of thousands of dollars, but in Queens? Things are a little different. A newly renovated three-bedroom duplex at 30-56 35th Street in Astoria recently rented for the not-that-impressive price of $5,000 per month, and yet it set a rental record for the neighborhood, according to the Real Deal. The unit is the lower half of a two-story townhouse, and it comes with a private garage and garden. It also has cedar floors, European appliances, iPhone-controlled heating and cooling, and "acoustically isolated" walls. It's by no means the most expensive rental in all of Queens, but in Astoria, StreetEasy shows the next most expensive unit to be asking $4,300/month. This unit was first listed for $5,500 in January, and after it was dropped to $5,000 in March, it took only 11 days to find a renter.
