Since the 1920s, the north side of State Street between Hoyt and Smith Street sat mostly empty. All of the buildings, save five landmarked brownstones in the middle of the block, were torn down for subway construction and nothing replaced them until the land was purchased in 2002. Now, 23 new houses designed by Marvel Architects fill the void. The first 14 rose in 2007, and the last of the remaining 9 is set to close this week for $4.2 million. [NYT; previously]
