Now the East Side's Grandest Stoop (and Its Manse) Want $25M

New, 2 comments

Publishing scion Dick Snyder has been trying to rid himself of the best stoop on the Upper East Side (and maybe all of New York City) for three years now. After picking up 120 East 78th Street in 1996 for—ha—$4,913,000, he dropped the 11,000-square-foot mansion back on the market in 2011 for $26M, and then reduced the price to $24.5M last year. But maybe because the market is so crazy right now, he's just PriceUpped and re-listed it at an even $25,000,000. Perhaps it's not surprising that the 1930-built exterior is so opulent, given that architects Delano & Aldrich also designed the exclusive Knickerbocker, Colony, and Union Clubs. The swoopy stoop outside is just the beginning, giving way to a classy "eliptial" staircase inside to match, plus eight bedrooms and as many fireplaces, 8.5 baths, two terraces and a roof deck, and storage for 600 wine bottles. Just in time for summer, pop one of those in a paper bag and slurp it the stoop to up the upscale factor, why don'tcha?
