Starchitect Speak

It was a tough week for Norman Foster, whose New York Public Library plans were discarded and whose half-built Vegas hotel is about to be demolished. So what does he do? Like the Lord that he is, speaks rather eloquently about design for two hours at the Village's Center for Architecture. When asked by a Curbed editor Wednesday night about the mind-boggling penthouses at both 50 UN Plaza and 551 West 21st Street, the Pritzker Prize-winner replied: "We are working with sympathetic developers who are wishing to push the boundary... I think it's a reflection of the fact that New York is such an extraordinary phenomenon. It's on the move." Right, and also, it has the cash-money. [Curbed Staff; previously]
