On Friday, the inaugural Designer Showhouse of New York opened on the new-to-market 55th and 56th "penthouse" floors of The Residences at W New YorkDowntown. The showhouse features 22 designers spread out over ten residences. While four designers got to tackle full one-bedroom apartments and the remaining two-bedroom apartments were split between three designers, all designers achieved some serious good looks and smart space-planning in the apartments' limited scope. Designer Showhouse producer Tony Manning offered up a few insights into the relatively small spaces and their chosen designs, noting that showhouses are safe places for designers to experiment, and alsoperhaps alarming to somebrass is back.
Although alluring to all interior-interested folk simply for the collection of designers and their work, the showhouse strives towards a good cause by donating all proceeds to the Lenox Hill HealthPlex, to take the place of ousted St. Vincent's as one of downtown Manhattan's primary emergency care providers. The Showhouse's penthouse apartments are on the market for between $2.23 and $4.875 million. Although these photos were shot on a cloudy day, the vantages give new meaning to "million-dollar views." The Residences at WDowntown was developed by the Moinian Group.
